Your company should consider business travel in NYC because of the enormous amount of startup activity surging there. Inc.com recently released its list of the 5,000 fastest-growing companies in the country, that more than 200 of these businesses are based in the New York area.
Slate recently highlighted the top ten New York-based entires on the list, including Tough Mudder, the company that organized a series of runs around the world. Although the founder of this company, Will Dean, was educated at Harvard, the business has its headquarters in Brooklyn and has drawn strength from its relationship to local talent. It has more than 140 employees today and ranks at 65 on the list.
The highest-ranking New York company is management consultancy Centric Digital, based in Flatiron, which is ranked at 34. It has seen an extraordinary amount of growth, expanding nearly 7,000 percent within three years.
The Slate piece featured a comment from co-founder Jason Albanese, who said that the New York location was essential to their brand identity. The location of other NYC companies mentioned in the Top Ten ranged from Brooklyn to Queens to Tribeca.
"Because we have a heavy client-services side to our business, and have clients based all over and outside the United States, we felt having a premium address—everyone has heard of Fifth Avenue!—helped," he said.
There's a good chance that with this much activity still happening in the Big Apple, your own business will need to explore it. Look for business class tickets to NYC that grant you the privacy of a charter jet worthy of executive trips.
