Drama between the pilot of a plane and the air traffic controller he or she is working with is the last thing that a passengers need. CNN has reported on just such a heated argument involving a controller in an Atlanta airport and a Delta Airlines captain looking to land.
Although the livelihood of those onboard the plane was never threatened, anyone who listens to the recording of the exchange can feel the irritation growing between the two speakers. The dispute centered on the runway that the plane was using to taxi: the controller wanted the pilot to choose one next to it, but the pilot refused to move. The conversation was less than two minutes but escalated quickly.
The climax of the argument comes when another pilot chimes in to sarcastically say "Settle down, Captain Happy." This is exactly the sort of stressful situation that is significantly less likely to occur on a charter airplane.
It was a minor incident, but one that caught the attention of the media nonetheless. The New York Post featured comments from Delta Airlines, which is investigating the situation. Representative Kate Modolo said that the company encourages better behavior among its employees.
"While customer safety and service were never in question, we are looking further into this exchange," he said. "Delta's values call for courtesy and professionalism in everything we do."
More personal air transport options give passengers assurance that they won't have to deal with needless problems that hold up the landing process. If you've chosen a charter airplane for a special occasion, you can expect a smooth ride organized by professionals with the right attitude about their work.
